Too many laws and its getting absurd !

A peaceful Sunday evening for me is past tense right now. I usually vacillate between classical music on public radio or talk radio on the local station. ( Or as progressives call it hate speech ! ) But I must confess within me there grows a restlessness that I can no longer ignore. There is an itch I cannot scratch. I am a man who is slow to anger but I have reached my boiling point. You see as I sit here and peck away at my keyboard I am listening to the local station discuss how the city council of Encinitas a lovely community just north of my city is about to outlaw plastic bags . Now you may ask why I find this so upsetting ? Well let me first state I am not anti environment , I myself have a full pantry of reuseable bags that are now my preference when I embark on my shopping chores. And I like any right thinking human being do not want a environment that is saturated with empty plastic bags . What gets my goat is the fact that Government sees fit more and more to mandate and regulate how not only I but the rest of you get to live. You see we live in a time where we are now being forced into limited choices. And our so called public servants have become our masters. They seem to be under the impression that you and I as responsible adults no longer have the ability to make proper choices for ourselves. And now these so called public servants our making our choices for us. This is Big Brother in action ! And it ticks me off !

Was George Orwell a visionary ?
Before I expose some of these absurdities , I would like to discuss a book called 1984. 1984 was written by a man named George Orwell some 60 years ago. I first read the book in High School as it was part of our required curriculum for English class. I do not remember much about that class because I was inhaling alot of natural herb at that time but I managed to make honor roll anyway. Now the central character in this book is a man named Winston Smith. Winston lives in London and is a low ranking member of the ruling party. And everywhere he goes he is watched by telescreens by the ruling party. The party punishes and tries to squelch individuality and replace it with conformity. They even have thought police. Which is a capital crime . Now you may think that this is a little far fetched and I might be going off on a tangent , but am I ? Has it occurred to you that we are just getting more and more regulation shoved down our throats ? That in the name of environment and safety you are monitored more and more daily ? Let me ask you this , do you feel as free as say 15 years ago ?

Now folks do not get me wrong , I am a law and order guy ! I believe we have to have law for a somewhat orderly society. I pay my taxes on time. I try to live a responsible life and be good to the people I love and treasure. I consider myself a solid citizen. And while we have not reached the levels of the dark world of which Orwell speaks can you honestly say that you are freer then you were ? We are treated as criminals when we discipline our children. And as a result we have a bunch of over coddled spoiled brats who are shooting up schools and dancing around in their birthday suits for all to see on the Internet here ! But we dare not discipline them ! I got the paddle in grade school once, let me tell you I shaped up in a hurry after that one. And it did not leave the emotional scars that some of these psychiatrist and psychologist might claim. We have traffic cameras that make us guilty with no chance of being proven innocent. Try taking a flight lately ? An 8 year old was on the no fly list and Grandma gets XRayed because no telling what she has got in her knitting bag. But we should not look at muslims because that would be profiling and that is wrong . What kinda freakin bizarro world am I living in ? What ever happened to common sense ? That is obviously a commodity that has been lost in todays society.
They now have a law in the state of Massachusetts that requires staff to help a child brush after a meal. Now I am all in favor of good oral hygiene but I do not believe any Government entity has the right to tell me what to do. I think most adults are capable of making good decisions for themselves and their children. Think this sounds crazy ?
Trust me its true ! Look in the archives of the TV station KPHO dated 1-19-10. Its all right there. You cannot sleep at the beach should you ever get the urge . For God,s sake you get taxed when you die !
Tea Party Protests
The Tea party people are not a s crazy as you think !
Now last year we had a number of protests by the so called tea party people. Personally I do not think they are as crazy as the more progressive of us would like you to believe. Because to me this was alot more then just a protests about healthcare. This was about people getting pissed off about a Government that incrementally is regulating more and more of our lives. And trying to force feed a bill that was just terrible. This was about giving the finger to people like Charles Rangel who writes our tax code but who did not pay taxes on over 1 million dollars in undeclared income. This was about people getting fed up with getting taxed to the max and having their lives intruded upon further and further. And they gotta case. I am tired of this Nanny State mentality. I am tired of paying taxes through the nose to pay for Bureaucrats to go to Copenhagen and live high on the hog and pose for photo ops at a conference that was a dismal failure. If anybody has not had enough regulation it is the empty suits on Capitol Hill. Who have gone far beyond their duties and interfere more in our lives daily. When in my mind they should be in Jail ! Then we have our top law enforcement official giving miranda rights to a terrorists and making us foot the bill for his Lawyer. And a DHS official that believes if you are in the freedom of speech and second amendment bunch that you as a citizen are labeled an extremist ! Bottom Line , we are no longer the land of the free and it is our fault. Because we are more concerned with The Grammys and " Pants on the Ground ".

Now I get no pleasure in writing this hub. And I am not even sure that anyone will want to read it. I am not some wild eyed conspiracy theorists who believes Elvis was taken away by Aliens. I can go on with example after example of how slowly in the smallest manner possible you and I are having our choices eliminated . I know this is kind of a downer of a hub. But I am gonna tell you straight up there is something deeply wrong in the supposed land of the free . And you can watch all the meaningless awards shows you want and take all those Yoga classes but the problem will not go away ! All these Ivy league alumni and supposed great thinkers are slowly but surely dictating more and more how you and I get to live . And you know what really pisses me off the most ? We allowed it !

Could all of these laws, and I agree they are getting a bit riduculous, be a result of public expectations. It seems so many believe that government, local and federal, believe something must always be done, as opposed to just managed. To get re-elected, local politicians have to be able to say I did that, I did that. Could be the 24 media as well, actually writing about local things.
Don't know the answer. Just curious. They are so intent to do something, they come up with dumb things such as this.

bgpappa I am starting to believe that people do not want to be responsible for their own lives and expect the Government to fix everything. Whatever happened to personal responsibility ? The constitution has been set aside for quite a few years now. And no I do not blame this all on Obama . This has been going on for awhile. And I for one am just getting fed up. And you are right politicians are more concerned about getting re elected then serving the people. Obama just submitted a 3.2 trillion dollar budget as I am writing this. The world has gone crazy !

Tony, not too long ago I wrote a Hub covering this similar area. Remember Echelon? That was just the beginning. People are still wondering about that puff of smoke behind the grassy knoll. The alleged hostage rescue some years ago in the Middle East was never supposed to succeed. Remember? No sand filters on the Sikorsky Blackhawks? I'm no conspiracy theorist. Unfortunately, I've seen some things here and there that I wish I hadn't.
Anyway, to me, the overabundance of laws and "Big Brother" approach tells me we have a government that is afraid. They're running scared. Never in history has there ever been the opportunity for the average citizen to acquire knowledge labelled "classified" by some. Never before has there been such widespread discussion of CIA, DIA, NSA and all the rest. In Tel Aviv, it's not a good idea to even mention the term Mossad. Years ago, the Russians would've had you hanging upside down for even using the term KGB.
Tony, the atmosphere today is one of fear which can be played by both sides. I could jump into Revelation real quick here, but I won't. We worry about Big Brother knocking on our door, but consider a reversal.
The overabundance of all of the above is set up in fear of us collectively knocking on their door. Whatcha think?
Unchained I have to admit that you have brought up a point I had not considered , and it definitely has validity. In the Information age we now have access to Info faster then we have at any time in our history. And it seems like the politicians are starting to feel our wrath in a small way as both parties seem to be going in kind of a panic mode.
Never at any point has society trusted Governmnet less and they have earned our distrust !And yes hacking into Government has become a problem but maybe a blessing too !

I totally agree with your position common sense is dead and here is it's obit.
Tony, I think you wrote a great article that explains the fear people have of losing their independence. We write a lot about Obama pushing us toward socialism and redistributing the wealth but it is more than that. They are talking of restrictions that would inhibit any more building of fast food restaurants because obesity is bad for us. Well, maybe that's true but it isn't up to the government to decide what we eat. If cap and trade gets pushed through the new laws and fees will cost us a fortune for electricity and water. I heard that they may come to homes with well water and install some type of monitor so they know if you use too much. They are pushing people too far when they regulate more and more. People left other countries in the world to come to the land of the Free and Brave. I just hope we're brave enough to weather the storm, plus stand up and fight back.
Unchained I have no doubt that your book will be a fascinating read. You have explained in brief where we are at this time in our history ver well .

We are now in danger of having our every move dictated because we have a President who believes that the government should run our lives morning to night cradle to grave. Now is the time to fight back and we had better do it before it is too late.

Great hub Tony. Cameras are everywhere for their security and financial gain...not ours. They've tracked us with numbers for years. I believe that they would love it if we declared a revolution. They are well prepared for it.
It is chilling to think of what they could do under Marshal Law. It is more chilling to think what they will do if we do nothing. It was only 70 years ago that the Nazis were marching (undesirable)men, women and children into gas chambers. Stalin and Mao murdered millions by other means.

Tony, great Hub. There are way too many things banned that should be left to the individual to decide. I wrote about it, many others have writen about it, and still our voices are ignored. Makes me want to move to a log cabin in the mountains and raise chickens and grow corn. Freedom? What freedom? I think freedom from government would be better.
Tony as always I agree with you 100%. They are doing it just slowly enough in the hopes that most people will not notice. And as I have said many many times in previous hubs and comments, our current society (especially my generation) is so focused on buying lattes and shoes and yammering about who wore what at the Grammy's, they can't be bothered with things like this. It makes me sick and I applaud you for trying to get people to wake up.

We have the food police now in Iowa schools. They cannot have salt shakers in school cafeterias, and several other things. Big Brother is taking care of us. I was thinking of sending a salt shaker to school with my children just for defiance. They can't take a private salt shaker away from a child, I don't think.

Let us consider one small little possibility here. Revelation tells us of the False Prophet and the Anti-Christ. Don't take this on words alone. Read the scripture. Do the comparison. I did. Tony, this Hub needed to be written. As one writer put it, we soothe ourselves with lattes and all the rest while being lulled into complacency, procrastination and the spirit of indecision. Yeah, I added a bit, but the gullible sheep are being led right to their own demise and they're actually smiling in the process.

It is getting crazy where I live too(Western Australia) now they want a law saying that police can search anyone antime anywhere and if you refuse you can get a criminal record. They are also trying to make seperate laws for our indigenous people which is completely backward and taking this country back about 50 years. I am at a loss as to where all this Big Brother crap is heading. I had better not get started because I could go on and on and on.....

Tony, as you may have noticed, I did not cite BHO by name principly because when discussing the false prophet and/or anti-christ the clarification was never fully and clearly made that either would be a single individual as opposed to an alleged united entity focused on a specific purpose. "The body of Christ" is said to be made up of those who faithfully believe and follow him. Ergo, that is looked at as a single entity and so the reverse is also true.
Ghost, the Phoenix Project has already been repeated twice since Nam sans the original operational errors and government intervention. MKULTRA has long since been in existance.
There are those who, from the comfort of their computer keyboard, wax philosophically about certain things though when it involves direct participation and exposure, you see things differently.
Unchained I amnot sure if the anti Christ has been born yet but I will say one good look at any Newspaper or cable news show and how can you not think that we are living in the book of Revelation ? I will keep trying to be a humble servant of Christ and be one of the good guys in the meantime. I so appreciate you insights though. These are some very poignant and observant points you've made here. I can assure you that you need not make any apologies whatsoever. I don't particularly care who it is who, in the government, is being intrusive into my life and intruding on the choices I feel I have a right to make for myself. Be it democrat, OR republican. At the end of the day it all comes down to my personal choice, and so long as that personal choice affects me and me alone, it's no one else's business. But it's true that the government is becoming more and more concerned over looking after me.
The November elections are going to be telling of American's not only realizing the intrusiveness developing in our current government into our lives, but it will also be telling of American's being fed up with the status quo. Independents and even perhaps a tea party are going to have a much stronger voice, and I say that as republican. It's just a fact. People are tired of the politics. And they're tired of the butting in.
Springboard all I have to say is Amen Brother ! If there is one thing that our current hard times have produced it is a new and finally more proactive voting populace and it's about damn time !I as an adult am perfectly capable of looking after myself. I do not need a mandate from some corrupt beauracrat dictating my life ! And from what I am gathering from people posting here the good ole USA is not the only one suffering from this intrusion. tony .. i love when you speak out and up. . funny but i was just talking about something like this the other day . . i was going over a bridge and to the right was sooo much traffic . .of course it was the lines for people that do not have the "easy pass" you know the tag thing u can get for your car and you dont have to pay the toll keeper. . anyway I said why would anyone want to wait when if you just get this thing you just drive through. . and my friend said . some people just dont want to be watched where they are going.. Thank God, the voice of reason has emerged! I have been saying it for years, they are incrementally taking away our civil rights. Did you know that your medical history is no longer protected. Now, if you test positive for "natural herbs" or what not, the doctor is required to notify the police. New law in January (Florida). Absurd! This country has always had a bad habit of going from one extreme to another. I say, we have had one revolution, let's have another! I will probably get taken away for saying that. I grew up in the 70's, and, yes, we were had much more freedom back then. I could go on and on, but I will save it for a hub. Great job!
janiek it seems these days people like myself who want to point out the obvious are now called alarmists or conspiracy theorists the sky is falling types. I say quit living in denial ! I would love to do fluff pieces as is the most popular here at HP. But someone has to expose the ugly , and thats my job. For example a co workers of mine has had his daughter miss several days of school because of flu symptoms. Now the school is telling him he needs a doctors note for his daughter. Back in my day when your parents called you in sick that was the end of it! Now they insist they needed a doctors not for their auditing they said. He told them thats not his problem , and I say good for him !

This is what drives me so crazy sometimes janiek. People just refuse to take their heads out of the sand and really take a good look at what is going on. I know it can be scary ! But to me there is no worse crime then co signing wrong with your silence. And indulging yourself in a plethora of pop culture that means nothing !
We have the power to turn this around ! That is exactly why Scott Brown won in Massachusetts , it was a way of giving Big Gov the finger. I want em nervous on Capitol Hill !

janiek I could not agree more. Part of the problem as I see it is that the voting public does not research their candidates enough. We keep voting in the same ole candidates and keep getting the same crappy results. We need some new blood in there because these people are all part of the machine. So if we do have a revolution , it has to start at the ballot box !
Ah, I wish I could call you crazy, I wish I could say your mistaken and are taking things too personally. But I fear your not only right, but see what "they" are trying to veal from the eyes of the public.
I've long been a student of history, and typically, the history I peer into is at least 1500 Years or more in the past. But since I was pulled into a analysis of the political trends since Pedophile Ford assumed the position, until Obama Ascended the Throne, and is seeing Bush's vision made reality. WE Exist in a Totalitarian Police State, the sooner the public realizes this the easier it will be for everyone. But the sad fact is that the people prefer to bury their heads in the sand and pretend it will "get better" Well get a good spade to help you dig your holes, I'll be busy preparing, growing vegetables, and working on my water system.
Regnar It Is truly sad that we have reached this point.The problem as I see it is people are more concerned about the "American Idol " finalist then their own liberties. Maybe we deserve our fate.
I have to say, one cannot argue the scenarios you have spotlighted and the informed comments from your hubbers have a powerful and convincing argument for the intrusion of our government. I tend to lean towards democrats but I cannot totally refute what you say. I tend to believe that the republicans put out an incredible amount of missinformation that does sway a lot of the public opinion, and they tend to lean towards laws favorable to corporations. I see democrats as maybe going overboard to help the bleeding hearts instead of finding ways to let them help themselves and possibly dragging us down with their help. Both are fuilty of setting up new laws. Is it the government or is it the people that are causing these intrusions? We have lawsuit after lawsuit that help to set up the laws. What do we do about that?
Even the grocery store tracks what we buy when we use the store card in order to get the sales. It's all kept on file in their computers. Yes, we have lost our privacy.

Rahm Eamuel made a statement that you should always take advantage of a crisis. And I see our Government exploiting the publics fears and looking for more excuses to infiltrate our lives. Sheila it seems everything we do now is tracked and monitored . Loss of privacy is a huge one for me. For example I was getting a load of spam on my text messaging on my phone. They sent it ,I get to pay for it ! I had to close that feature on my phone. I do not miss it ! Thanks for dropping by.

It used to be "America the free" , but have you seen the communism come out to play?? they tell us what to do , where to do it , how to do it , no you cannot discipline your children , no you cant smoke a cigarette , yes! you have to pay school taxes even if you dont have children! and so on and so forth! and we wonder why so many Americans are moving to Europe and other countries abroad! hell! might as well!!
jami this is what concerns me greatly. Not only does congress legislate our laws so does , the EPA , the FCC and just about every other dept. in Government and it is getting way to far out of control. But according to many liberals this is exactly how it should be. I have been screaming about this for awhile but it only seems now people are starting to take notice. Thanks for dropping in.
