Time to pull public funding for NPR
65NPR reporter Nina Totenberg doesn't get fired for this
But Juan Williams gets fired for this !
Juan Williams
Vivian Schiller
Sarah Spitz NPR producer on Rush Limbaugh
In boasting that she would gleefully watch a man die in front of her eyes, Spitz seemed to shock even herself. “I never knew I had this much hate in me,” she wrote. “But he deserves it.”
Now come on folks not only is this hate speech Sarah Spitz producer for NPR even admits her deathwish for Rush Limbaugh. Can't tell me theres no bias here. This is the hate speech so many Libs accuse the Tea Party of !
Supposed Journalism
2010 has not been short on controversy. We have heated debates in the midst of midterms, proposals for a mosque at ground zero , Bill O Rielly spreadin the love last week on"The View " and now NPR or National Public Radio has got themselves in the crosshairs and stepped in it big time. The big controversy of the week has now become the undignified firing of former NPR commentator Juan Williams. Now most people here I would dare to venture were not aware that Juan Williams was a commentator at NPR but was more well known for being the liberal foil to both Sean Hannity and Bill O Rielly at Fox News. And by many accounts his association with Fox News was in fact his undoing.
Juan Williams was supposedly fired for the above statement made on " The Factor". And according to Vivian Schiller the head of NPR this was because of instead of reporting the news Juan Williams became the news. And yet Nina Totenberg and Sarah Spitz received no punitive actions for their unabashedly hateful statements. And for those of you who think there is no liberal media Totenberg won a journalism award in the latter part of the 90s. And Sarah Spitz a member of " Jornolist " issued a half assed and- insincere apology later that week in July of this year and the matter was put to rest
So if Juan's statements were offensive then I say Totenberg and Spitz should have been removed immediately for what can only be termed as " Hate Speech ". But this is the game today. NPR has become nothing more then a machine of the far left where even a moderate liberal such as Juan Williams has no place. So as seems more apparent journalistic integrity is not the code of NPR. In Juan's commentary he merely expressed his honest feelings about trepidation boarding a plane that has a man who declares himself Muslim. What was lost in the commentary was the fact that Juan was also trying to express that we somehow needed to get past that. However in a post 9-11 world most Americans whether they will admit or not feel the same. Not to mention recent events like Ft. Hood where a muslim soldier killed 30 plus soldiers while screaming Ali Akbar , a panty bomber who flubbed and a failed attempt at Times Square where in court Faisal Shahzad said that this was only the beginning. Seems to me Juan's trepidation is justified ! But seems also that many on the left have short memories.
George Soros. NPRs new benefactor
Time to cut NPRs funding.
NPR does receive Government funding. However this is only at most 2% of their actual funding. And I say that it is now time for that funding to be removed. As they are now showing their stripes. They also have pledge drives from the public that helps them meet their expenses. And I get the distinct feeling that getting pledges from anyone is going to be a real wrestling match now. Because not only was their move not popular with those of us who are of the more conservative mindset but also many of the liberal persuasion as well. This was a form of censorship that was done in front of the American publics eye and people are paying attention not only to politicians but also to mainstream media which has grown in popularity on the equivalent of going to the dentist. They are now growing as reviled as any politician or fatcat banker who took a bailout. And also they recently got a pledge of 1.8 million from George Soros who lets face it will not be at Fox News Christmas party. And I find it no coincidence that with that endowment last week the firing of Juan Williams so closely following that endowment is no coincidence. Because Soros and Fox News are at war with each other and there is no way you can candy coat that ! Soros also has given another million to Media Matters which is just another name for " Jornolist ". And is one of his favorite attack dogs for Fox. NPR also has alot of corporate sponsorship and I tried to find out who they were but they would not list them on their homepage.
The battle continues
Also the Council on American Islamic Relations or CAIR made it a point to throw their hat in the ring and made every effort to make sure Juan Williams was disciplined. While claiming they did not call for his termination I have no doubt they were chortling with joy at the outcome. So now after what is seen as a most unpopular move by this theoretical news station this story is hardly finished. Now South Carolina Senator Jim Demint is calling for a proposal to pull all funding for NPR. And it seems his Idea is gaining some steam. What the outcome of all these events of the week will be I have no Idea. What I do know is that NPR stepped in it deep ! And from what I can gather is that it is a pretty much universal sentiment that Juan Williams comes out the winner in this one. And NPR looks like the evil corporate entity that so many view with malice. So as the midterms are now coming upon us and in lieu of events of the last year and a half there is no doubt that there is an Ideological war that is going on here in the USA. And Juan Williams is the latest casualty in this war of political thought. And I find that so odd because when you talk about extremist on either side of the political spectrum the name of Juan Williams is not a name I would associate with those type of extremes. And I definitely have no plans on even pledging a dime to NPR. And fully support their funding being pulled. I sure am gonna miss " Wait Wait don't tell me ! " and " A Prarie Home Companion " though !

tony - I think Juan is better off without NPR, as we taxpayers would be too. Fox just signed Mr Williams a $2 Mil contract yesterday, (well deserved) to comment full time with FOX.
In these trying times it certainly would be one spot we could save a few pennies to defund their taxpayer subsidy. I remember in previous debates going back to Ronald Regan. With howls from the left that we had to provide for 'free speech' Don't see how they can make that claim anymore. Pull the government plug!
Great Job Tony!
Great hub. NPR doesn't deserve a penny of our money and it never did. Williams himself said that NPR was looking for an excuse to get rid of him in retaliation for his appearances on Fox! Free speech?
Tony,
This is an outrage by NPR. I was just thinking even though I disagree with Juan's politically I could argue politics with him and still be his friend!!!!!!!!
Soros is a traitor to his own people he led them to the slaughter in Hungary when he was a teenager. He turned his people over to the Nazis and used a false name while living with his with his father and said he was his nephew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Preach it brother! Destroy NPR or at least take away MY money! Juan will be better off! .....sadly the country will not with this type of bias in media!
Tony, Excellent hub. I wrote NPR a nasty email for what good that does. To fire someone for saying what they feel is pathetic. Most of us feel that way since 9/11. Vivian Schiler should be fired for slander since she suggested on national TV that Juan might need a psychiatrist. She is a nasty woman. Definitely take away public funding even though that won't hurt them since Soros just happened to give them that big chunk of change at the same time. Gee, maybe he got fired because he was the only black? I think he has a court case to at least get all the pay they owe him until the end of his signed contract.
I know this sounds really paranoid, but I am beginning to believe that Soros could actually be satan!! It is sickening how these libs and their MSM arm just pick and choose which free speech is worthy of defending. Since Juan is a lib, I disagree with him most of the time, but he actually has facts and logic to support his positions which is way more than most libs!!
Tony...Great Hub!...But, But what about the Children? If we don't fund NPR we hate Children...and Sesame Street... Cair may have to come up with a Muslim version of Sesame, beheading and stoning Big bird will be fun for the children to watch.
This is the EXCEPTION rather than the norm
Great job Tony! Beware libs, if you don't walk their walk and talk their talk, you will be publicly ridiculed and unfairly at that. Come on libs, you don't have to keep sleeping with fleas. Come on over to the wild side where truth and justice is served (more than not anyway0. Just keep turning right!
Great Hub, Tony! Good to see the left eating there own now, except Juan did not deserve this. He has shown great courage of conviction through all of this.
Good to see your hub on this, tony! I'm thinking the same.
I think NPR was completely within its rights as an employer to boot someone who made inflammatory remarks inspired by a political pundit bent on inspiring such rhetoric.
I have been listening to NPR lately. There is something about it that just freaks me out when I listen to it.
Keep on hubbing!
Good job on this Tony. This story is not going to go away any time soon and it will be interesting to watch the funding issue hit Congress. If NPR fired all of its commentators for inflammatory comments, they might have grounds with Juan Williams but after hearing other hateful comments which they didn't seem to have a problem with, they don't really have a leg to stand on.
I don't agree with Juan on a lot of issues but at least he can carry on a debate without getting ugly or stupid like other commentators.
Tony: Thank you for your continued insight into the mind-boggling world of politics.
The one thing that bothers me, that I have never really been able to clearly articulate, is why people keep losing their jobs over words they say. Doesn't our First Amendment protect our right to say whatever we feel?
How does a person's opinion negate their ability to do their job effectively?
Anyway, thanks again for always writing about relevant topics :)
Nice tie in to your Soros hub ;) You should definitely add a sidebar or a link somewhere in this hub to your biography on Soros!
Thanks for the lesson Tony, you do quite well in analyzing politics. Beautiful, all your hubs, Maita
It's an outrage that the bigots at NPR get public funding. Can you imagine if Rush Limbaugh got public funding? The left of course is far less tolerant than conservatives are. But sometimes I think conservatives need to get upset about a few things. Public funding for NPR is one of them.
Good grief, if your not blowing smoke up someones a%% I guess you had better set down and shut up. Did we once have freedom of speech in this country? Well Done Tony, Love and Peace brother :)
Juan Williams a Fox member gets the shaft and everyone wants NPR's head on a platter. Rick Sanchez makes a comment and is let go by CNN and every cheers. Hypocracy at it's best don't you think? and as for public funding being cut, then why don't we cut out all the tax free insentives for every evangelical church that spouts hate at the pulpit.
So interesting how Fox News drives all the controversies and attacks on anything liberal.
I wonder if they'll spend much time and outrage on Rand Paul's supporters assaulting a young lady, or on any other number of things?
Fox only does what is politically expedient, and it is anything but fair and balanced. For them to whine about NPR's activities is asinine and purely political.
Tony
You must be from Brooklyn, no offense.
I agree, and more importantly Juan has every right to feel uncomfortable. The muslim community has not do any kind of job in separating themselves from the 19 muslims that attacked the US. They have been labeled as terrorists, or extremists, but we don't know how far or if they are any different than other Muslims.
The only way for us to know is if the Muslims here in this country separate themselves by deeds and educating us.
thanks
Tony awesome! You are absolutely right. I've been saying we shouldn't pay for Public TV at all - not one dime of tax payer money to any of these programs - including Sesame Street. That program would get enough advertising revenue but the rest would go down in flames as they should. Including NPR.
I'm with you pull this funding and pull all the ear marks and funding for ridiculous liberal causes! Fantastic Hub!

Juan Williams bit the bullet on this one only because he said what the majority of us feel and even with that, his comments were no match for the directed hate towards others who only took a slight slap on the wrist (more for PR than anything else).
In the end, however, the hatemongers will catch it. Juan's career is by far not over and perhaps his firing is a blessing for him. He's more than likely going to be exalted by those who see it all for what this truly is and while sandbagging the other clowns may well bless Juan in a big way.
