The best Rock and Roll Christmas songs.
72Rock and Roll Santa
Tis the Season !
Seems we have arrived at one of the funner times of year. We are well into the season of screaming out of control children and over eating nirvana. Which are the hallmarks of the holiday season. It has been a very busy last couple of weeks around here and I have not been able to donate too much time to HP. However I am having a few peaceful moments and just wanted to indulge myself in two of my favorite things. The Christmas season and Rock and Roll. By now it is no secret that I am a music enthusiast so I just wanted to merge these two fun little tidbits and give you my list of greatest Rock and Roll Christmas songs. We started with " Jingle Bell Rock " by Bobby Helms. This classic tune was given to us in 1957 and is a staple of the holiday season and was the opening tune in " Lethal Weapon " which I still consider the best of that set of movies. This was before Mel Gibson went mental on us after all ! And then I would like to present a tune I always thought was really good " Rockin around the Christmas Tree " by Brenda Lee which is just so damn sweet and cheery , it will give ya cavities !
Brenda Lee. Rockin around the Christmas Tree
Greg Lake. I believe in Father Christmas
The Kinks. Pioneers of the British Invasion
More great tunes.
" I believe in Father Christmas ' was a single by Greg Lake that I thought while not the most festive of Christmas songs was just a beautiful musical arrangement. The Emerson,Lake and Palmer frontman was very underrated as a guitar player as well. As Keith Emerson was the featured player of the musical trio. But Greg Lake owned this symphonic piece. Next I would like to submit what I think is easily the best Hard Rock Christmas song EVER ! " Father Christmas " by the pioneers of the British Invasion The Kinks. Now the video footage of the Kinks doing this performance was pretty muddled at best so I just got the song for you instead. Rock on Hubbers !
The Kinks. Father Christmas
Donny Hathway. This Christmas
Donny Hathaway
Some more great tunes
Now the tune by Donny Hathway will probably not be what one would consider what you might call Rock and Roll. However the musical arrangement and Donny Hathaways voice is so silky smooth and beautiful I feel it would be a felony not to include that beautiful Christmas song. The last couple are a little more serious in their tone. Including " So this is Christmas " by John Lennon who as we all know was taken from us 30 years ago. And quite frankly much much too soon. Like just about anyone I know John Lennon holds a special reverence and his contribution to the musical world is far to great a magnitude for me to even articulate properly the respect and adoration I have for him.
And lastly in the 80s we were given a gift by a collaboration of musical artists from the United Kingdom called Band Aid. Among the luminaries of this collection were Sting , Paul Young , members of Duran Duran and U2 and a humongous cast of Superstars that was arranged by Bob Geldof lead singer of the long ago defunct " Boomtown Rats ". This was a landmark song that started the benefit concert scene and for that Mr. Geldof has my respect. And this song is so Important to me because it always reminds me to give of myself no matter what circumstances I percieve to be tough. And that message is firmly embedded into my psyche now. And what is the use of having anything if you don't share it with loved ones and others , because that is where the joy comes from.
So this is Christmas. John Lennon
Feed the World. Band Aid
Best to you fellow Hubbers.
It seems 2011 is now in view on the horizon. Man where does the time go ? So I just wanted to take moment to wish all you good folk here at HP a Merry Christmas , Hanukkah, or Festivus or Kwanzaa or whatever the case may be. I know we have been going through trials these last couple of years. But now I think might be a good time for us to count our blessings. So no matter what your circumstances I hope everyone here is surrounded by people you love and are loved by. Because the people that we love are our reward. So best to you hubbers and rock on this holiday season !

The Single Worst Christmas Song?
Smashing Pumpkins - Christmas time
Merry Christmas to you as well, friend. As for your thoughts and perspectives on rocked out Christmas jingles...spot on. And that's saying something considering I generally don't fully enjoy Christmas music. :)
Tony. .. love all your choices but you left one seriously important one out. .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yErhglOXIxM . Scary part is I think I was actually there when he did this one!
Oh and last but not least . wishing you a very very merry Happy Holiday xoxox
trust me tony, it's to be avoided.
It came on automatically on the jukebox in my local a few weeks ago, me and my girlfriend spent it's entire length trying to figure out if it was Smashing Pumpkins, and if it was what the hell were they doing writing Christmas Songs?
After grilling the jukebox for information we found it to be true, and much, much worse upon second listen.
Great list.
How about I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day by Slade?
