The New York Times favors censorship !
63Cass Sunstien lover of censorship
Maureen Dowd
This will be quick and to the point.
I am not one to waste words. So I am gonna get straight to the point on this one. I was looking over the Drudge Report this morning and as usual I wanted to see what kind of crap the LA and the NY Times were spewing out today. Lo and Behold as soon as I hit the opinion pages at the NY Times I immediately found something that raised my Ire. They published a editorial page called " Google and Government monitoring ". And basically to break it down to its most simplistic terms the Governments around the world are quietly asking Google to remove content that they find objectionable and to report all Information to the said Government about the Individual who posted the objectionable material.
Now if you have any degree of Intelligence at all you should be angry and quite frankly very afraid. And I know some of the more gullible here are gonna want to label me a conspiracy theorist but I say that if you feel that way you honestly do not understand the Implications that come along with this action. Folks this kinda crap is exactly the kind of Big Brother mind control crap that we have been warned about for a few decades now. And what makes it even worse is that the NY Times has co-signed onto this kind KGB type of tactic. The NY Times has been a paper that I have always considered only useful for lining the catbox. As three of the journalist there have been found to be plagarising material over the last 7 to 10 years Including Jayson Blair and their diva Maureen Dowd who writes more worthless crap then even Paul Krugman. But for better or worse and in this case worse the NY Times is considered the paper of record. And for any liberty loving Individual I have to question how a paper that should be hailing freedom of the press can co sign onto such an action. I guess that Cass Sunstien is now the managing editor over there. This guy is an egg short of a dozen anyway and is a big proponent of control of any dissenting content to Government and the fairness doctrine. Cass Sunstien got his playbook straight out of the Peoples Republic of China. You think its any accident that he is on the Presidents staff ? Hell no !
Now what shocked me the most is how enthusiastically the NY Times endorsed such an action. First off they claim it is a welcome step towards transparency. To which I retort , WTF ? Exactly how is cherry picking content that might be harmful to a Governments reputation considered transparency ? I call it a form of mind control. Don't you just love the way liberals play with words and concepts to turn a bad Idea into a this is good for you notion ? I mean they were successful tweaking the constitution into meaning freedom of religion is now freedom from religion and nobody batted an eyelash !
Now of course the whole Idea of a Government controlled Internet starts out with a couple of legitimate and benign reasons or as the NY Times says its not all bad. Things like trademark and copyright law. Now of course there are legitimate reasons for that. But I say once the Government gets their foot in the door you think they are gonna stop there ? Of course they are not. The Internet has become one of the best ways in which we are getting more dirt on the slimy politicians that reside in Washington DC and citizen journalism has now become one of the best mediums upon which to expose these carpetbaggers on both sides of the aisle. Now do you think for a minute now that they have Googles ear that they are going to allow any exposure that will shed a less then favorable light on them ? Of course not !
And then Nicole Wong who is the General Counsel for Google says that these actions will start a more informed conversation about monitoring and censorship. Now what does that mean ? How does removal of material a Government finds objectionable start a balanced conversation when all viewpoints are not represented ? Lawyers sure are good at playing with words. I know, I live with one !
So now in the very near future I have a feeling all of us are going to be getting one hell of a lot less actual hard news. But at least we will still be able to get some decent recipes for cooking chicken until the recipe is flagged ! And this is not just a USA problem this is a global problem. Now seeings I have ads from Google on here it is probably gonna come back to bite me in the ass. But I do not care because you good folk really need to know this. I wanna see what kinda nad Google has and see if this hub does not get flagged ! Maybe China is gonna be in charge of the Internet soon. And the NY Times will be their propoganda machine ! In the meantime I will still line the catbox with their paper !

You are the king of no-nonsense analysis. You are right, this is scary, scary, scary. Maybe if enough people are willing to speak up as you are, then we can stop this train... oh. maybe they're reading this... delete, delete, delete. Kidding aside, well done and thumbs up. Linda
Tony,
One need not be paranoid in this day and age. Even though some are paraniod it doesn't mean someone isn't out to get them!!!! The whole Net Neutrality thing is very eerie!!!!!!!!
Not surprising. When you couple this with the ammount of information being handed to them through sites like Facebook, where people literally tell the network EVERYTHING about themselves, which then the big boys get access too... we the people are becoming more and more like those fleshy blobs of humanity in the pods in the matrix. 1984 and the Matrix have pointed the direction and we are sprinting towards it every moment. Power and money will ALWAYS work towards cosolidating power and money, always.
terrific fine hub will read more thanks
I mentioned this to another hubber once - Obama showed up on my Twitter list. I wouldn't even click onto a government site, didn't want them to know I exist, and he shows up on my Twitter list? So, what's done is done, let's see what he's tweeting about - but it's so eerie. I'm writing this comment to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.
Sheila B., was it a re-tweet by one of the people you are following?
This is very scary. This goes against the Constitution guarantee of freedom of speech, which means nothing on the world scene. I like your straight forward reporting. The NY Times have been a pathetic excuse for a newspaper for quite some time. If the government starts interfering with what we write, I guess they will knock on my door because it isn't exactly complimentary. Great hub.
Tony - once they achieve Net Neutrality, the government will send out the order to install a webcam in your home. Then we are back to 1984... It may happen sooner than we think!!
The NY Times has become a left wing radical piece of garbage news organization, I imagine all the journalist and reporters sitting in a dark room each morning dreaming up how they can manipulate naive Americans, Good news is America is waking up! and the Times is no longer trusted for news of the day!
Terrific and informative hub that should scare the hell out of any thinking human being.
Tony, what have you got against your cat? Loved the hub.
Like always, you bring the news to the forefront. Thanks for the info. And to think that some will look at this as a good thing. It is true what they say, "Ignorance is bliss!"
Great Job.
Tony, great Hub as usual. What's so funny about Google, is that there already is some information that does not easily show up in search. I occasionally use another search engine and find that I spend less time searching for the things I need. You would think big brother would be spending more time on important things than to spy on the average Joe.
hmmm, freedom curtailment his is not America anymore,
How are you dearie Tony, Maita
Oh well done tony!!! Two points - 1- google has been hand-picking the results you see on your screen for a very long time already. So this is just an expansion of that concept (there is no algorithm that "randomly" gives you results to your search) and 2- google is owned by the CIA. That's kinda sums it up, doesn't it :)
Excellent, very excellent hub !!!
(and I can't stand that Dowd woman - ugh :(
Thank you for this informative Hub. If it is flagged, it is probably done so for future reference. You know? "Building a file", on you or something. As I'm sure you realize... individual rights are eroding, and this google thing is a perfect example. I doubt we can stop the snowball rolling down hill, since it's being pushed by mega-power and huge sums of money. But to be aware is a very important thing. Please keep the light shining!
P.S. I rarely "google", and use another search engine, but doubt it makes much difference.
Once again you cut right to the chase. Thank you, my friend, for your fearless reportage. You are spot on.
And at one time I thought only the communists were keeping an eye on the people...So much for freedom of speech
