Hollywood Movies - Don't waste you Money !
74This one should be a stinkeroo also !
I have no problem saying this.
As I was watching the game between the Celtics and the Cavaliers in the NBA playoffs tonight I was hit right between the eyes by a major piece of garbage. Or as we call it the movie trailer. Much to my horror I saw the trailer for the Will and Jada Pinkett Smith rip off/ remake of the 80s classic " The Karate Kid " who will be starring no less then Jaden Smith their son and Jackie Chan king of sequels. ( I mean come on man are they making Rush Hour 14 yet ? ) And thus begins my gripe . This is gonna be a little bit of a rant and might offend those who worship all things celebrity and are a victim of what I call the E Entertainment mentality. And I am gonna say a couple of things right off the bat. Will Smith shame on you! And second overall if you are spending money at the movie theater you are wasting your hard earned money. The crap all those braindead executives at the studios are trying to sell us makes me debate with myself whether it is worth my dollar at the Red Box. Or to put it in a most abbreviated way , modern movies suck !
I can say unequivocally and without reservation that anybody who considers modern cinema legitimate entertainment must be reading at the third grade level right now. We now have an almost predictable diet of sequels , remakes and comic book heroes upon which to select for our entertainment pleasure. And I am willing to wager that most of you who throw away your money at your local movie theater walk away from a movie feeling completely ripped off. But remember all those celebrity watching shows on TV are telling you how great these guys are and so you somehow talk yourself Into believing that you just got some actual value for your money. I say you just got jacked !!
Lets take a look at some of these modern cinematic masterpieces. " Meet the Parents " painfully sophmoric all three of them. And Ben Stiller has only had one funny movie in his career and that one was " Flirting With Disaster ". I do not know how people think this guy is funny. Or how about any of the "X-Men " saga all three of those would do better to die a slow painful death in obscurity ! The lack of talent storyline and actual acting was so painful I was developing a migraine trying to watch them . They should use all the above mentioned movies at Guantanamo, I know I would talk just so I would not have to endure any more of the crap being spewed on the screen !
And remember that legendary piece of cinematic toilet paper " Miami Vice " ? The only reason I bothered to watch it was because the love of my life Gong Li was in it. And I would slap Michael Mann if I ever saw him in person for subjecting her to being a participant in such a piece of garbage !
So I believe by now you know where I stand on the state of modern movies. I have no doubt that the Hollywood Elite are just laughing at you as they live in their Ivory towers telling you to save the planet and join MoveOn.org while they phone in a less then mediocre performance and steal your cash !
Plenty of Razzies to go around !
I often peruse the papers these days to see if there is anything worth the $146.57 that it cost nowadays for a movie , popcorn and a Diet Coke. And every Saturday and Sunday I decide I am better off loitering at Hubpages and praying for NFL football season to get started !
I just want to give you some examples of the type of crap that you can expect to be regurgitated at your local Cineplex for 2010. We have another remake of a very amateur horror movie effort called " A Nightmare on Elm Street " which I did not find that scary in the original version. This month we can look forward to the 217th remake of " Robin Hood ". I will bet it will make Kevin Costners version worthy of the Smithsonian. And " Sex In The City 2 " at the end of the month. I can already smell the stench coming out of the theater. The 15th movie in the " Twilight " saga. And In September they will be giving us another sequel in the " Resident Evil " series. The first one was pretty good , so I guess they felt the need to destroy a decent movie and turn it into a heaping pile of you know what !
And now they are gonna remake the 1967 classic " Bonnie and Clyde " and have that girl who played Lizzie Mcguire take a shot at destroying a cinematic classic. I guess somewhere not to far down the line they might wanna remake " Citizen Kane " and " Gone With The Wind " too. But why stop there ? Let's remake " The Godfather " and update " Scarface " too !
Well I think I have made my point. I just wanna warn you about all the garbage being thrown at you in the near future here so you can take cover. So do yourself a favor hit your local " Netflix" and get some movies for the family and yourselves to enjoy and don't bother with the theater. I do gotta say one thing about modern movies though. They make yardwork and chores look kinda Interesting !

Sad but true , Tony. Movies just aren't what they used to be. I've watched my share of box office flops.
Tony,
You'll get no grief from me, I think it's all crap too. I havn't been to a theater since 1995. If it's not on HBO or ENCORE I never give it a second thought. I already pay for these services so I select from their moveis. I even wait a week to watch pay-per-view fights. I got sick and tired of paying over 50 bucks just to watch two losers display their "skills"!!!!!!!!
Ben Affleck will be playing Moses in the remake of "THE TEN COMMANDMENTS" soon.
I used to be a movie buff. I saw just about every non-B movie that came for fifteen or twenty years. I have to admit that the The Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies and an occasional offering with Sean Connery in it and movies like them, are no longer available.
It has gotten to the point that my wife gets angry with me for speaking the dialogue before it comes out of the actors' mouths.
Now, I may see one or two movies a year. The industry has definitely tanked.
I used to love my night out at the movies but I'm with you all the way ! My belief is that they are making movies for a specific market these days , and it ain't us lol
I have not been to a cinema in close on 10 years, there is just nothing they make in the modern genre that appeals to me.
Great Hub Tony! Thumbs up
Tony - I agree with you on most of what you have written, but I did enjoy Robert Downey in Ironman - the first film which made so much money there will probably be a dozen sequels.
It is almost sacrilegious how Follywood is so devoid of new ideas that they plan to remake almost every money-earning movie of the past. I, too, long for good ole football season on TV. Thanks for a great read.
This hub is right on! I almost never go to the movies anymore which use to be something I enjoyed. Even renting movies, most of the time I don't finish watching them because they are so poorly done. Hollyweed doesn't seem to have any original ideas for a while now. They won't get rich off this gal.
Terrific hub. I can't remember the last time i went to the movies. When the Academy Awards come around, I usually have no idea what they are talking about.
"I mean come on man are they making Rush Hour 14 yet ?" HAHAHAHA that was a funny sentence. But couldn't agree with you more mate.. Movies today are beyond rubbish and hollywood should be scrapped off the face of the planet!
The day I decided the Cinemas weren't worth my money is when I went to see the sequel to the Matrix. Absolutely awful and I vowed never to step foot in a cinema and haven't done so. I don't even rent movies anymore. I stick to the old classic movies like Wizard of Oz and the like. They still have the ability to bring me joy unlike movies today which are more depressing before you watch 'em and you already know what the story is before its even told!
I think Hollywood should hang its boots and call it a day as its gone way past its expiry date...
I couldn't agree more with you on that. I saw the commercial for the Karate kid the other day and I was like, OH HELL NAH~ No one can redo Mr. Miagi! Come on that is classic stuff,,next thing you know they will redo the OUTSIDERS! AHHHH.. Anyways- The Entertainment industry has their heads so far up their asses they don't know what good is. Too much re-makes and reality shows and fake ass music stars. American Idol is a sad show...the music business is hard and most do not make it...here I go ranting and raving...I think I will make a hub about the music industry now..thanks for the inspiration my friend! JJ
series are always wanting to rake or double what they earned the last time, thats why remake movies are at times under par, Maita
Haha from someone who has long jumped off the Hollywood bandwagon I say be more proactive. Don't wait for trailers to see what's good or showing but go out and look for gems - there's a humongous number of movies that don't go mainstream. As for the sequels, I thank God Gone with the Wind is untouchable! Yeah!
Lizzie MacGuire as Bonnie?
oh dear.
and i agree, i have no interest in seeing the karate kid remake, yawn.
great hub haha. lot of passion.
Tony, the last movies I saw was Avatar and Alice in Wonderland. hehheheeh I'm not a movie or tv buff either. LOL
Actually I always update the Hollywood movie by rent the DVD. But I found interesting topic from you. Good to know that and I think we free to express our feeling. Thumbs Up and I rate this. Prasetio :)
Amen on this one Tony, there isn't even a decent movie on demand. I wouldn't spend $15 to go to see a movie these days, I'd rather spend that on a good book. Keep Hubbing!
Very interesting read and amusing too - I like the way you gave the Reviews. Good points raised. :)
i think ironman 1 was 'oryt' n havent yet seen ironman 2 n dont know what to say about it yet! Nothing is ever interesting today! Soooooo sad! But you got to admit! 2012 and avatar were two fab movies. I just LOVE disaster movies and yes james cameron avatar maker is actually the best there is! Its only his movies that seem soooo good! He puts all the effort in it not only for money BUT for the viewers tooo!!!!
OMG - have you watched V for Vendetta! Now that is crappppy!
I was just ranting about this the other day. LOL the A Team movie is due out soon, and Hawia five o the tv series remake is coming to a boob tube near you soon. Cameron announced the other day he will make Avatar II and III big woop.. Avatar one was okay.
I dont mind some movies being remade, but come on. Hollywood has no clue how to write an original movie any more.
THough I will admit to Loving the Star Trek revamp, and Sherlock holmes. okay and IronMan and IRon man two.. you really cant go far wrong with showing gwenth Paltroy and Scarlett Johansen in tight dresses and spike heels unless its scarlet Johanson in tight leather kicking butt. Sorry Dog moment.
and Yes I loved Batmen the Beginning and the Darkknight. Okay I liked V for Vendetta too. kinda of fitting for the Current US I think. beyond that, not many I can think of I liked in the last few years.
dont even get me started on so called horror movies. seems hollywood only uses one ending these days... Everybody dies. whats the point in watching. and most of them are so lame they dont even deserve to be called horror.
enough ranting maybe Ill write a movie hub to rant in. Movies, entertainment to gnaw your arm off too. catchy title I think. or cinenma Prostitution.. pay your cash and get.....LOL
thanks for a good hub.
LOL my local theater costs two dollars for first run movies. and I still have only been three times in five years.
Small town benefit I guess. the last time I went to a movie in a city it cost 7.50 for the ticket and dang near three dollars for a coke.. so... Date carried chinese food and cans of DP in her purse LOL.
id would have BBq'd but that might have been a bit more obvious LOL" no sir thats not a BBq pit, its neccessary medical equipment run on propane."
Awww I enjoy going to the movies but you are so right, modern movies can be such crap!
Totally agree Tony
I watch European movies, especially French. I think the last Hollywood movie I truly enjoyed was 'Sideways' but then I have't watched a lot in the past 2 or 3 years.
I must admit though that I admired 'X-Men 2'. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen gave it some class and raised it above the usual cartoon comic-book nonsense.
Great Hub
I agree with everyone, movies these days suck, after watching the new predator movie I told myself thank god I did waste my money on going to the movies, I watched it on comcast and I rated it a 8 until I found out there will be a sequel, hollywood stop, stop, stop, with sequels please. You people are going tooooooo far, lets see here, saw, jason, night mare on elm street, predator, I could go on but you know you make too many dumb movies, and more thing stop with saw, the movie sucks. I do hope will ferrell keeps up the good work he is funny and a good actor. I am done with theators. I like the old scary movies from the 80's, warewolf in london, night of the living dead, children of the corn, pet cemetery, fu%# hollywoods stupid sequel, after sequel after sequel, after sequel, waste of money. please someone fire lindsey lohan, and parris hilton waste of space and movies. I will never ever go to the theator again. And I am tired of stupid shows like my new bff, jersey shore, kate plus eight wasting space on ondemand for comcast, who cares if you think your hot our what ever, you people make me sick, peace out.
sorry for miss spelled words, I have the new my touch phone, yea I am also going to just stick with my local nfl football, and college ball team. Movies are just a waste of time these days. I go to the local bar and keep up scores. Well tony my wife gets mad because all I do is watch nfl, and college football and not watch movies no more with her. If I do watch tv series its the show black gold where they dig for oil on true tv, they show tooooooooo many women shows these days. peace.
You to, good luck on your team.
The situation has been deteriorating for a few years along with my cinema going. Hollywood produces extended pop video, leave any thought processes at the door. I also watched Star Trek but found it irritatingly bad. The few good Hollywood films are made by specific directors. Inception was good, Nolan's Batman Trilogy are good films. But like you I watch the independent stuff more often. They have coherent stories, direction, characters and imagination.

Well done!! I agree with you!! Although personally I like Robert Downey Jr. as a great actor, but I have stopped going to the Theaters and just wait for the movies to come out on DVD...
I have not watched a single movie in a year.
I have stacks of unopened DVDs..
