Don,t move to California !
79But we really need you tax dollars .so please visit
I was watchin the news tonight with my usual skeptical eye ! And the Govenator Arnold was dicussing the state budget or should I say the lack thereof . Our state budget deficit has now officially ballooned to a now whopping 42 billion . And now many state services will have employees not working a full week . Which In a way does not bug me too much because from my experiences dealing with some of our state employees I have never seen a less motivated and ruder group of people !
Which Is not to say that all of these state employees are bad . In my line of work I deal with alot of the state and county municipalities . And now here In San Diego county we are going to lose 18,000 of these people. . And this Is because there Is no money to pay them . The budget has been In the hole for probably 4 years now . Gray Davis was our former Govenor and he Is one of the Individuals who got the ball rolling . And then the Governator came In with a strong message for the people and a very Impressive body of work In the film Industry . Come on ya gotta admit TERMINATOR Is an all time classic along with PREDATOR . For me after looking at his qualifications that was enough for me to vote for him based on my love of his movies !
Now for awhile he has been screaming at anybody who will listen that we have a budget crisis that needs to be addressed Immediately If not sooner !
So I really do not blame Arnold for our current crisis. I do however have a slightly small problem with our state Senate and congress , This congress has moved with speed of a teenager at the video store who you asked to help you and Interrupted as he was playing with his GAMEBOY !
But I have decided that I will be our official Ambassador of tourism and encourage you to come to California If you can afford to In these lean financial times . We really need the cash out here ! Not to mention the rest of our nation Is freezing their tails off and I do not know about you but -40 compared to the 75 we had here In San Diego Is no contest
I will also be glad to show you all the good Mexican places to eat and I know the streets of Los Angeles too but I will not take you to Hollywood .If you visit on your own you will know why !
Now that I will not be getting my refund from the state I know that I might need to put together a telethon or something like that . And as for congress I hope they get no pay because they are not doing anything .And If we have to trim some jobs lets start with our state congress and Jerry Brown too !
But If you Insist on moving to California I encourage you to stay at your present location . The weathers nice . But the traffic really sucks and we do not have any state services . And we have a state Government that has about as much effeiciency and Logic as college students at a kegger party'
Otherwise It Is not bad here ,

Your a commontador! What dya know.
I am a native and would advise people to stay away. Living in California is similar to the affects of a taking rollercoaster ride over and over again. At first it is excillerating and fun, then you begin to feel sick because of all the unbelievable traffic, smog and the cost of living is draining your nest egg.A sense of dred sets in. Finally you get your hiked electric bill and notice that your taxes just doubled on your mortgage and you only bought your house three years ago. The stress of living in California is crushing.
So you head for the beach to get away, relax and soak up some sun. Catch up on some reading or hang out with good friends. Rejuvenate your soul.
(shrug) you gotta live with the good and the bad. Or just plain run away.
As for me, I am running.
I was raised on California and moved away as soon as I was able to. I hated living there. But, I will be visiting San Francisco soon during a roadtrip I have planned, and do look forward to visiting. Cali have some nice sights, but that's it!
I agree. I hate the California publuc school system. I was apalled when my brother decided to move back to SoCal with his 2 boys - they were getting such a great education in Washington and now...<sigh>
Yes the School system in Cali sucks a fat one! And the taxes suck a fatter one! but really I would never leave this state unless it fell off the continental shelf in the BIG ONE earthquake. But even then I probably would have fell off into the Big ole blue with it......I am sticking with Cali por vida,,, I love it here no matter what...and I'm a ride it till the wheels fall off!! =)
ha! you are right. That wouldn't suprise me either.
great!
nice hub..
Thanks for this article! Yeah, just come visit! Good thinking, Tony0724
Who is performing at the telethon and when? I'll DVR it. But I can't afford long distance, so don't expectation a donation. I'm in it for the entertainment.
Well it'd be worth it just to hear you sing the song, Tony.
Well, you convinced me--we'll stay here in the land of no-jobs...otherwise known as Ohio...someday, though, I really would love to visit your state.
But I guess I'm going to have to be the one to ask this--I've waited to comment, hoping someone else would bring it up, but no go...
Why won't you take us to Hollywood if we visit...and why is GT so anxious to do it instead??
Okay, Tony--I'll take your word for it, even though I don't know what you mean by Westside, sorry, lol...and will return the favor if you're ever in our neck of the woods!
I am from New York and just visited Sandiego. Beleive me Sandiego is much cheaper to live. I never even saw any air pollution, traffic or smog. And if You think taxes are high in Califronia try New York, Westchester where I am. Our land tax is unbeleivable. Think about it, we pay to heat our public buildings in New York, that was fun when heating oil was $5.00 a gallon, heating our schools, warming our cars, we were almost finically collapsed. At least In Califonia i can live in a tent and wont freeze during our next modern depression, which is probally soon. Both cities are also unique and beauftil in diferent ways. It is very hard for a New York personto ever truly move from here for long. Winter gets old but summer, autum and spring in New York is awesome, beauftil forest, lime green trees, and New York City.
That's an idea - we'll have a telethon to help poor California pay its bills! Can we get Jerry? Of course, this isn't the only state in budget trouble. California seems the worst because it's the, uh, richest state. Let's hope the Golden State can rise from the ashes of "this economy." Later!
At least, we can't complain about the weather--everything else sucks but I would rather have blue skies and lots of days when you can just walk around in Ts and shorts.
Shhh. Don't mention the weather aloud. They'll figure out a way to tax it:-). Seriously. I live in the furlough capital and as much as I feel many if not most state departments can snip off quite a bit of excess fat, I do feel bad for the actual workers and their families. If you are used to working and suddenly are forced to take unpaid days off -- it cuts into your life.
Now we have DMV offices and courts closed some Fridays. Isn't that swell?
I'm with ya, Tony. But of course if anyone were to move to CA they'd end up down by you. It truly IS hot here in the Central Valley (although on the plus side its only 2 hours to Tahoe and 1.5 or so to SF). MM
And to think that I almost moved there... now the only man who could tantalize me enough to move there would have to be Arnold himself :)
Sadly...I agree. I moved out of CA shortly after high school. Told myself I'd never move back...and what do u know...here I am. I hate the traffic, the smog, the violence, the clutterness...the grumpy people at the community hospital I have to go to get my treatments. But... I do have a handful of "caring" nurses. I try my best to bite my tongue and be as pleasant as can be to them because sadly, I need them. I only moved back because of my illness, which weather can have a major impact on. I miss Colorado so much. My spacious 921sqft 1bdrm apt with a walk-in closet for $469/mo. Yup. Recreationl Center and all! I had to give it up to come back to CA where a 1bdrm can run you about $900 if you're lucky. Definitely a good place to visit...but not live!
I'd add in another reason not to move here (especially to the bay area) the people are so vapid - and rude. It doesn't seem as bad in other parts of CA. It sure is hard to beat the weather here though :) Fun hub tony!
tony - I've been having a really crumby day and you just really raised my spirits- Thanks :)
I agree that California is a man made disaster, however we also have to agree that Gray Davis was for California just as good as Bush has been for the entire country. It was him who started it all and Arnold could do little to fight the democrats.
In top of it all, the general economic crises, especially the financial crises affected California and give it the last push.
Surviving we may, but being again the 7-th industrial power of the world is not likely.
Tony,
I saw on Hannity that the Federal Government has increased the problems of Califonia farmers by shutting off their water supply in favor of a 2 inch fish the Delta Smelt. Over 40,000 farmers out of work in food lines getting carrots from CHINA!!!!!!!! It's an atrocity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just sympathy for all you CA guys...except the weather in San Diego is great! Been a long time since I visited there. However I recently felt my first earthquake here in central USA! Take 'em back, please! :-)
Hi Tony, I have always wanted to visit California. Many people I know that have visited always return with mixed messages, eventually I will find out for myself. Thanks for a great hub!
Ha ha ha what a funny story. I only have visited San Fransisco once in my life! And i was shocked!!!!!!! at the prices. I stayed in a company paid for hotel and ate crakers for 4 days because I refused to pay 2 dollar for one banana! After that I left and will not be a good candidate to help you guys fattening your gold pot. Maybe your governer can make another movie! And donate this to the state. It is just a sugestion.
Dear, dear, dear, based on some financial, policies and economical process like budget rollover, etc. you should not blame California, though in the last paragraph you have cleared your intention, i think moving to any state in USA a hassle, yet places of choices are certain big factors..... ok, i will keep your post in my mind and do the needful
Thanks its a nice information regarding California, You are too much violated against the rules and principles of California, may be this will hurt you. But any way this post is helpful for us what the things is happening right now on California.
I retired from Cal. and moved into another state 5 years ago,and the California tax boys still try to get me to pay taxes.
It wasn't always like this :(
I moved here in 1982 and it was wonderful. The school system was considered one of the best in the country, Silicon Valley was hopping, everyone was making piles of money, there was a fabulous attitude of live and let live and everybody was friendly.
Then the Clintons got into office and now everybody hates each other.
Imagine an entire area of the country that looks, acts, talks and thinks like Pelosi!! What a f#@$%@# nightmare !
It is better in SoCal though, as I've seen from my visits there.
Very fun hub tony :)
Well this ole lady is here to tell you young-uns how it WAS. I lived in LA when we did not see the sun or blue sky's for weeks it was called SMOG! Then Jerry Browns father--then governor started laying the taxes on ---you know to get rid of the SMOG.
I moved to San Diego---yes the air was clear and you could see blue sky's but the taxes climbed higher and higher---it took 24 years but I escaped.
Great hub---your advice is RIGHT ON.
What makes me so mad is that so many people are moving from California and wanting to change policies in their new cities to some of the same things CA was doing. They already ruined one state why move to ours and drag that down too?
Grass is greener syndrome. I'm from NYC and feel the same way about it here. But also know - factually - we have more to bitch about. Believe me we pay more for everything and on average have a lower median income. Although NYC property taxes are relatively low within the 5 boros, BUT very, very high in the outter suburbs. Fourth highest cost of living and sixteenth highest in income in the nation - huge disparity. I'm sure SD is more in-line. And our Mayor is a fool AND our Governor is a corrupt idiot. Are State is in the crapper. Meanwhile Washington, DC is number one for income. That's the real problem. All of our states are going to shit, while the government gets fat.
That said, given it takes me almost 90-mins. to travel 25 miles in traffic to Manhattan on beat-up highways, then have to pay $5.50 to cross a bridge, $40 to park a car, or $2.50 for a dirty subway ride that takes even longer. Not to mention God awful humid summers, cold winters (not so bad for me) AND most of all, the general New York "greater-than-thou" attitude. I'll take the laid back Cali lifestyle any day.
I have lived in NYC, LI, and Southern and Northern California, and the common denominator is the Democrat Controlled government.
The government and the unions are an expensive team in NY, while in California the unions team in the government. The California Government Employee is a very expensive tax liability.
The size of the California Goverment and the millions of illegal aliens receiving benefits prevents any way to balance the budget.
Maybe there should be a math entrance exam for political candidates. That way we will at least no if they are stupid or corrupt.
Its a pleasure to stop by.
Thanks
The problem with giving money in any form to CA is that you are giving money to people that want to destroy our way of life. The Hollywood crowd, led by Martin Sheehan type ilks, say your home owners are not paying enough in property taxes and that prop, (I think 180), that limits the growth of property taxes is racist. Yes racist! Why? because it discrimates by having less money to give to illegals and lay abouts.
The same Hollywood crowd marches in the streets in support of illegals and their rights! Rights!!
Your state has also called for a boycott of AZ companies. Arizona is just trying to keep their state from becoming part of Mexico. But in the words of one liberal---Let's not forget who owned that land once---great!!
Then you you have the huge fund raisers for Obama, he's helped the country a lot.
How about the moronic congressmen and senators you have,
Feinstein, Boxer, Waters, Pelosi, and more I am sure.
Your state does nothing to facilitate using it's own resources to raise capital. The estimate is that CA would take in an additional 5 Billion per year if they would allow offshore drilling,----naaa who needs 5 billion.
They are laying off 18,000---that's the first positive thing they have done. These munuicipal budgets and benefits plans are out of control.
In my town the Town Hall is closed on Friday and closes at 3pm on Thurday. You want to know why? I'll tell you why. The Town decided to save energy to help with the energy crisis----The one which took place under Jimmy Carter in 1979!!! Typical of government at all levels, the early and Friday closing became permanent. And of course no one's pay was ever reduced and no one was ever layed off, even with one less day and two hrs less on Thurs.
Then there is the new $600 Million Dollar palace High School just opened in LA. That's what we call real fiscal responsibilty----lol.
I tend to boycott business or in this case a state that is attempting to destroy America. CA is definitely at the top of the list.
They love illegals so much there, why don't they just tell the Mexican President they will accept all of their poverty. Then they don't have to build watering stations in the desert for them, as one of your illustrious leaders in CA proposed.
And has your population learned anything over the crisis they created for themselves? Yes, the leading candidate for Governor is Jerry Brown!!!
Maybe he can get Linda Rondastat to sing at his inauguration, that is if she can waddle up on stage.
Californian's are getting exactly what they deserve, because they are getting what they voted for.
How's Hope and Change working out for you guys?
The Shark
I'm with you Tony, as a conservative in CA you are Davy Crockett at the Alamo.
As for the Republican candidate being a RINO, you are still better off with a weak Republican then a Lib. In MA we have RINO Sen, Scott Brown. But he replaced Kennedy and defeated the wacko lib Coakley. So we are btter off. Look at McCain, defintely a weak RINO, but we still would be a thousand percent better off had he won. If he had won, the gov't wouldn't own GM, we wouldn't have a 1.3 trillion dollar defecit and we wouldn't have a gov't health plan. In addition, NASA would still be flying rockets, not attempting to make Muslin Nations "feel good", as Bolden says his directive is from Obam. He reported that on that very conservative net work, Al-Jazeera!
So I feel your pain, but vote for the candidate with the "R" after their name every time. I would also encourage you to find who is running in local campaigns and do some work for them, some calls, signs etc. As the great liberal tip O'Neil said, all politics are local. We can only turn this thing around at the ballot box.
Keep the faith, speaking of faith, watch for the new US postage stamp honoring the Muslim faith, authorized by the President of the US!

Nice hub. I do not come to California but I want to. For tourism of course.
I don't live in California, but I usually visit once or twice in California. After the long New England winter, you need the sun to change your attitude. I always said I wouldn't mind living in California, but there seems to be a big (literal) price to pay if you do live there. If only Boston had palm trees and didn't dip below 50 degrees, I'd be all set.
Ok, now I am confused. Is it really that bad living there or does it just depend on what area you are in? I an in Indiana, all we have here is corn, trees and major humidity.
I am tired of this kind of weather. I was/am in the process of deciding to move out there. Now I don't know what to think. I am not a political person, I just like to live life and raise my kids. Are the school systems really that much worse then here is po-dunk? I am really looking for some honest feed back from real people.
Ok that is part of the answer I was looking for. So have you ever been to southern Indiana or know anyone from here?
I am neither Dem. or Rep. I just vote for who sounds like the best candidate for me. As far as politics go it is the same every where you go, only a different atmosphere (my point of view). I went on a sight where they rate the schools in the U.S. There was only 1 on the list of top high school from IN and it was about 550 on the list. Now where are some of the not so good schools? At least CA has some in the top 100. IN isn't so far from the third world country. Here is the southern part of the state americans are the minority.
HMMM and I was thinking of moving there with my girlfriend......my allergies are hellish here in NC ...ofcourse she doesn't want to move to the place that is gonna drop off in the ocean....lol....but that would end the budget issues ...haha just joshing,, I would love to see the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other...
I really like your writing style!

Thanks Tony
May I ask your triggers? My severe allergies are to mold, but ofcourse pollen and some trees. However what I need is a much less humid area to reduce mold growth within a home. I found a dehumidifier helps . I was told by a few docs to go to Arizona, I just can't picture being happy there. I am a beach bum at heart and just melt when I see pics of the Cali-coast.
You have a funtastic day as well and hope to hear and read more from you soon!
as always,

I have been looking for help online and I hope I can find it here. I am planning to move to the san diego area this summer. yes, i know the state is in chaos but i still want to experience something different. i am born and raised in ny, lived in sc, and now reside in oh. i am freaking miserable here!!!. i just don't know where to look around san diego. i don't plan on buying any real estate, just renting. i'm coming to look around at the end of march and need to know what cities to consider. i would like a city that is diverse and a low crime rate, everything else, i'm cool with. can anyone help me?
This is enlightening - I haven't been to America before but California seems very popular.
Thanks for sharing what's happening out there.
just wondering if ventura camarrilo is good to relocate for job offered.

Can I be the guy who drops them off in Hollywood?
