Can you friend the Dept. of Homeland Security on Facebook ?

For those of us of the masochistic variety or translated those of us who follow politics and current events we have been working overtime to stay abreast of current events as they happen in real time. Not too long ago it was announced that the Dept. of Homeland Security now has an official Twitter page. And for you viewing pleasure I have decided to add it to this particular hub.

Now I will say in the modern age of telecommunications you have to give the Government a little bit of credit for being innovative enough to exploit the realm of social media. And I also believe that they had to figure out some way to get our attention. Because nothing is ruder then the Government intruding on you while you are watching " American Idol " or " Jersey Shore ". Not to mention our new favorite national pastime , watching Donald Trump having one continuous Charlie Sheen moment after another.

Well I was perusing the Drudge Report and it seems that today we will embark on the first implementation of the new security alert system and it will be launched in New York City. So now all of us can expect to be getting nice little tweets and IMs from our Government. AT&T and Verizon wireless are already on board with this one. Now I will say this could be a necessary evil as people like me did not really pay much attention to the Orange Alert threat level, especially if the Chargers were playing the Patriots or some other matter of extreme importance like that one. And all of us were completely oblivious to the color coded threat level that I would see on CNN with regularity. Now I will say in all seriousness that this is truly a innovation that we need in a post 9-11 world. However I do have a couple of questions. Does DHS have a Facebook page too ? And if so will I as an American citizen be required to friend them ? Will I also be required to hit the like button on everything they post ? And seeing that the DHS is based out of Washington DC will I now have to be a Washington Nationals fan too ? These are just a few of the things I ponder as I look at Washington DC coming into the 21st century. And by the way DHS has a facebook page and it has 174 people who have hit the like button ! I wonder who those people are ?

Now that all of us can be expecting to get messages from the Government I myself would like to see some messages about what is going on in the Capitol. After all this is supposed to the new transparent Government that we were promised right ? These are a few of the messages I would like to get sent and applied to my homepage and on my phone.

#1- Joe Biden is really a pain in the ass !

#2- I think Obama can hit more three pointers then Kobe !

#3- Hillary is really grating on my nerves !

#4- John Boehner cries way too much. Even Nancy wasn't so whiny.

#5- Deficit ? What deficit ?

#6- I want to know who just hearted Sarah Palin from the office here ?!

#7- There ain't no stinkin border problem !

#8- Michelle is pissed ! I went out for burgers and fries with the Russian President Medvedev again ! Oh and don't get between Michelle and a tamale. LOL !

And as far as security alerts go these are messages I never want to see !

#1- Ignore the military convoy that is on interstate 5 right now. Everything is fine !

#2- This week sadly you are going to have an intimate relationship with our TSA agents ! Just enjoy your patdowns.

#3- OMG ! RED ALERT ! WE ARE F****D !
