2009 a year in review . And goodbye Michael Jackson

Top tweets 0f 2009
Good day to you hubbers and anyone else who might be reading this particular hub . Today we are gonna look at 2009 and the events that are shaping us now. We are going to start with this twitter phenomenom. Now as most of you know I am technologically challenged. So this twitter and tweeting deal is not for me. But apparently it helped us to keep tabs on what was happening in Iran so it does have some redeeeming value. I myself wonder who in the hell wants to keep up with what I had for breakfast though ? However it is the deal now and one cannot deny its popularity. So any way , here are the top ten tweets ( or is it twitters ? ) Oh hell I don't know ! This was according to Time magazine
#1 Ashton Kutcher - All I gotta say is why ? I liked that 70s show though
#2 Neal Patrick Harris - Boy some people just have to much time on their hands is all I gotta say
#3 Iran - This turned out to be one of the ways that we kept current on what was going on during their rigged elections. I am glad to see that this device was put to good use at least once
#4 Oprah - I guess we can be expecting a lot more tweets in a year or so, now that she is retiring from her TV show
#5 SHAQ - He is looking for someone to teach him how to shoot free throws
#6 Larry Johnson - Boy when he spoke his mind it costed him his job with the KC Chiefs. Free speech is not allowed on mass media I guess. Besides Chris Johnson is the man now !
#7 Tracy Morgan - Another one where all I gotta say is why ? The E Entertainment mentality personified. But 30 Rock is funny
#8 Pete Hoekstra - This congressman I guess tweeted some really lame stuff. A congressman saying something lame ? Who woulda thunk it ?
#9 Cory Booker - Newark NJ mayor. The only way I woulda known about this guy was because Time magazine put him there.
#10 Miley Cyrus - Apparently the teeny boppers got a hold of Daddy's credit card !
Lady Gaga , a top story of 2009
Like it or not Sarah has been a topic.
Some of the Intersting people of 2009
Now according to Baba Wawa , these are the 10 most facinating people of 2009. While I do not wholeheartedly agree ,who am I to argue with pop culture ?
#10 Michelle Obama - Oh well if Barbara say's so
#9 Lady Gaga - Now don't be hatin on Lady Gaga ! Whatever else you might say about her or her music she has been a big deal this year . The question is does she have the staying power ?
#8 Glenn Beck - No single Individual gets a rection like Glenn Beck. I am working while his TV show comes on so I don't really get to watch. But man I have never seen a man who gets such a strong reaction from people !
#7 Tyler Perry - Do not watch much television , so I could really care less !
#6 Kate Gosselin - See my statement on #7
#5 Adam Lambert- Made quite a splash at the AMAs. My prediction is he has had his 15 minutes of fame. Just another contrived cliche from pop culture. And I say proudly I have never watched "American Idol ' . 2010 he will be thrown in the trashbin of pop culture
#4 Sarah Palin- Another very polarizing figure. I guess most libs were hoping she would just go away after the elections. But if anything she has gained some Mojo. Would I want her for President ? I do not think so. However the wannabe Intellectuals here on hubpages and in mainstream media forget what is the essence of her appeal. She is more like one of us regular folk then any person in either party. That is part of her mass appeal.
#3 Brett Favre - I am sure Brad Childress the Vikings coach does not feel a lotta love about now.
#2 Jenny Sanford - Not my pick but I do admire her strength after her husband Mark Sanford went hiking and wound up in Argentina. What ? He was'nt hiking ?
# 1 Michael Jackson's kids.- I refuse to say anything about children
The Angel is with the Angels now
Celebrity deaths
This was not a good year for celebrities. We lost a couple of Icons and quite a few more.
Patrick Swayze - The man had quite the resume . " Ghost " and " Point Break " among the many I can think of. I gotta say he was very dignified all the way to the end and I have immense respect for that.
Ed Mcmahon - Ed was getting on in years by this time. And the co host was definitely a major part of pop culture.
Ricardo Montalban - The Icon of latin American celebrity
Natasha Richardson - This one is kinda sad. Because she had a spill while skiing and obviously it did more damage then was apparent. She was only 45
Marilyn Chambers - She put porn on the map. She actually had done some pictures for Ivory Snow for baby products early in her career
David Carradine - Mr " Kung Fu " was apparently playing a little to hard in some rather kinky behavior. What an undignified way to go !
Walter Cronkite - This man was nightly viewing in my household when I was a kid. With the title of the most trusted man in America , I think that says all you need to know about him
John Hughes - No one captured teen angst like this fine director. " Sixteen Candles " for me still ranks as one of the all time best comedies ever !
Ted Kennedy - The Massachusetts Senator is considered somewhat of a celebrity just by virtue of his surname. No matter how you feel about this guy he has had a significant Impact on all of us here stateside.
Brittany Murphy - Only 32 , so sad. And from what I have seen lately she went out in the same cliche way most young celebrities do. But without a doubt a very fine young actress. What a shame
Walter Cronkite
My biggest news Items of the year.
#1 Michael Jackson - Let's face the facts no story captured the attention of media the USA and for that matter the world like the death of the King of Pop. I remember being a kid watching the " Ed Sullivan Show " and seeing these five smiling kids singing and dancing to a song called "ABC " and immediately begging my Mom to get me the record. I remember being a young adult and watching a early MTV and dancing to " Billie Jean " and " Beat It ". And sadly I remember the last few years and the downfall of a pop Icon. But this guy was part of the soundtrack of my life.
#2 Obama Inaguration - A historic event. But America overall is having alot of buyers remorse. I was hoping he had not been soiled too much by the political machine up there on Capitol Hill . And as I have been many times, I was wrong again. The more things change the more they stay the same.
#3 Iranian protest - Nothing was more horrific then seeing young Neda Agha- Soltan laying there dying in the streets of Iran amidst rioting and political upheaval. I was thinking about uploading the video, however it still chills me to the bone and I just find it completely repulsive. It was such a shame to see a young woman taken down in the prime of her life. Another reason to hate Government. I would almost bet that except for Iranian Government and Muslim extremism we would be friends with the Iranian people.
#4 Tea parties - Everyone seems to think this was just about healthcare. But it was about so much more. It was about giving a Government the finger who keeps intruding on our lives more and more by the day. It was about the elite of this country thumbing their noses at us as they do not pay taxes and feel no accountability to their constituency. And now people are getting mad and gettin ready to roll up their sleeves and say ENOUGH ! Anarchy I believe is on the way , and it is apparently overdue. I have been saying we need a third party forever because we have been sold down the river by both the GOP and the Dems. And if you think things are OK all I gotta say is wake the fu@$^ up !!!
#5 The Economy - I gotta be honest with you I am not sure whether we are on the upswing or not. But I do not trust mainstream media to give me a very clear picture on that. All I know is people are still struggling and children are goin hungry. And instead of citizens getting a bailout the banks and other big business do. I am just a layman , but I can smell Bull^%%& .
#6 Sully Sullenberger - A true hero ! This guy on January 15th had birds fly into his engines on Flight 1549 and had to brace for Impact brought down a plane with 155 passengers and not one life was lost! This guy has to have nerves of steel . He definitely has my upmost respect.
#7 Fort Hood - This and the recent event at the Detroit Airport makes a case for profiling. Sorry but the truth hurts ! While good Muslims stay muted probably out of fear of their own . Bad Muslims keep making my case. This is an indictment not a theory
#8 Afghanistan - While trying to root out Al- Queda it seems we have just walked into Vietnam. I will say of all of Dubyas gaffes going into Iraq was the biggie. This is where we shoulda been in the first place. And now with our resources spread way too thin we are paying the price for it. Looks like another losing proposition from where I sit
#9 Balloon Boy - It never ceases to amaze me what people will do for 15 minutes of fame ! Are we really that vapid ?
#10 Swine Flu - I was hoping to have an excuse to hole up in my den and keep writing. But my flu symptoms are usually extreme irritability. Oh excuse me I am always like that ! My Bad
Well that is my brief synopsis of 2010. All I can really say about this year is goodbye and good riddance. This year sucked ! I just hope for everybody concerned that all of you have a great 2010.
See ya round folks !
The face of a revolution
A picture of a hero
Megan Fox, hey I told ya in my last hub !

Tony,
I listen and read many different news sources, including the mainstream media, just for S'ts and Giggles. I do like to read Alex Jones's news-thought provoking and rings true to me in many ways.
Mostly, as silly and bizzare as it may sound to many, I listen to God and what God conveys inside my spirit, about what is ahead for the world. It is far worse than what Alex Jones predicts.
I am not sure how you were "awoken" but I do know one thing Tony, God woke you up-that is a given. There is a reason for it. I believe that God is tying up loose ends here in the world.
My only question to people is-which team are you playing on? Soon events all around the world, and especially the United States are going to shift and everyone will get their chance to display their team spirit. Will it be for God or for evil purposes?
I can assure you on this much. The people who are asleep are NOT on my team. They have no idea, taken no time to read, to be aware of what is happening right infront of their faces, they will not be prepared and they will be so traumatized by what is going to happen-they will be lost. Not only on an Earthly sense but a spiritual one as well-they took no time to even think about "why" we are here.
No matter what happens Tony, remember that God exists and our deaths are only on a physical level. Keep God close, no matter what! This is a war and it is only of good vs evil.
You are quite enlightened on many things! I enjoy reading your Hubs and look forward to them!
Great Review Tony - Marilyn Chambers will be missed, and God rest and bless Walter C and Nada , I have to take a more optimistic view of 2010 hope we as a nation will refocus on the things that are important. I think the TEA Parties are gonna have a major impact to that end. See ya in the Hubs my brother and keep em rolling!
"I just hope I am on the winning team. But alas I am human and have many faults!"
As I have stated in (1) "Igniter" Nazi's hidden among us-People are worthy of God, even with their 'conditions.' meaning faults and humanly failings. It is only the opposite team lying to you, to think you are not.
You ARE on the winning team Tony.(just so you know) ;)
(I am very much an optimistic person but I am also a 'realist" too)
Great review of the year. I am hoping that 2010 will be an amazing year with the kind of "change" most people want!
Tony you out did yourself on this one and I commend you! I don't know who Baba WaWa is but the list is interesting are you certain you did not make that name up? lololo
I like Tyler Perry you should check out some of his plays on DVD he plays Madea not only is he a Christian, he is a director and he plays Madea which is absolutely hilarious! He lived out of his car in New Orleans and through God he perservered. God to BlockBuster and rent Madea goes to jail, or The Play Diary of a Mad Black Woman I own the entire series and I have to say these are hilarious! I own Sex and the City too , yes I am addicted to those shows, lololo.
It is sad that we lost Michael Jackson as you know my husband knew the family and he still gets teary-eyed when we talk about him, it is so sad.
I will miss Patrick Swayze he was my crush in Dirty Dancing and Ghost my heart still goes out to who is beloved wife who he adored.
With regards to the Swine Flu I remember your hub that made me laugh so hard I cried anyway this was fantastic Tony , great job and you deserve a Hub Oscar on this one! :)
Good year end review. Nice thorough list.
You certainly did sound like John McCain, lolololo :D
Good list. I agree, Michael Jackson was the biggest story, not sure what that says but it was.
Thanks for encapsulating 2009 so succinctly. I was thinking of doing a Hub like this...but now I will have to rethink it. :>) Blessings to you.
Great job Tony. I would like to invite you to live with us on the island of AlGore when everything falls apart. Since it's a ficticious place, you can move anytime you want. Go to "The People of AlGore" on Facebook.
Lots of good info in this hub.
2010,,
Could this be the year you get tossed into jail for saying
'God Bless America'??
Don't sneer, I am not Glenn Beck, just a concerned citizen!
Think about it, if I had suggested at the end of 2008 that
Americans would be told they either purchase health care insurance or go to jail, would you have sneered at that?
What surpises are ahead for the year 2010??
I,ve watched and listened to a lot of commentator's opinions to the point of nausea. There are so many giving their spin to stories that are such serious, real issues to the people of this country and relegating them the importance of a byline in a magazine article, I think sometime, they, hoping much does go unnoticed; but alas, we do not have to worry when Tony's on the job; you will get the truth and opinion suited for the subject at hand.
Keep on hubbing!
Here's hoping your 2010 is even better than your 2009!!! Love ya Tony!!! :D
Thank you Tony for your wonderful commentary of 2009!!! Although I don't agree with EVERYTHING you wrote 99% rings so TRUE! LOL...(it wouldn't be "US" if I didn't disagree with something..what would we debate???) Have an awesome 2010 my friend!...
Great year in review hub, well done. I'm with you on most of your points, except maybe Lady Gaga, I don't know she just is not for me. Everything else was really good especially the buyers remorse point. Thanks enjoy your New Years Eve, and Day.
great hub bud!~ Yeah I am not into that twitter crap either. To me its lame, why am I going to update the details of my day to day life on the computer for the world to see? especially since I have heard some people have been burglarized and homes have been robbed due to tweets they post that they aren't home or on vacations....I think a low profile is always the best way to go.
On to the other parts of your hub...you really summed up alot that went on this year. good job!
You write such great stuff. I don't even want to write anything about 2009 now LOL
Actually I will use your hub as a reference and pretend I have some knowledge. :)
This is by far your bestest hub ever - the research, the layout and the wit. And you can never go wrong when you dip a finger or two into the pop culture pond as everybody's mainstream whether they admit it or not as it has grown to such magnitude that politics, sports and even science are now right smack in the middle.
But more than the entertainment, laughter (and ALMOST a hint of tears) from reading this let me tell you that I'm happy that your hubs can now be described as a complete package (oh you know what i mean) that can run with the hubs of the sleekest hubbers around.
And I'm not done yet. I do twitter - in fact you can follow me just look for dark_brew - but only to promote my hubs and not to tell the world or at least 'my followers' what I did while watching Gaga's latest vid.
Not yet...
You mispelled the balloon in balloon boy in your tags - now you do want to get hit dontcha?
Tony, kinda late here but was down possibily with your #10.. Or maybe not, everything these days is swine flu. Just wanted to wish you and yours a very Happy New Year and hope to keep reading your work. Looking forward to a couple early rants in 2010.. LOL
hehe tony, Meghan Fox is beautiful and Michael Jacksons kid and him too, I agree all in the list though,
Happy New Year to you and yours, more for you and may wishes come true for you, Maita
Tony--dear Tony how I have missed you while I was sleeping away my favorite hubber's posts. One of my New Year's resolutions is to vex you as mush as I can--in a good way! I miss our little tit for tats!
Happy New Year's!!!!!
Good job Tony! Great way to close a horrible year and begin anew. Happy New Year to you, looking forward to reading your thoughts in the comming year.
Jesus man, it appears you actually worked on this hub. No wonder you have so many fans! Have a good one Tony, and for me, the highlight of this hub was Megan Fox, except I would have liked to see more bod in that photo. The main reason I am on line is to look at dirty pics.
Michael Jackson-I will always love you and respect you for all you have done for music. Lizzy
Now Tony--I cannot argue with you on this one--this is by far, your best hub! You summarized the events the past year--good and bad, in the most informative and thought provoking...the only complaint I have is with Sara Palin...it is sad that she did not want to retire quietly.
Other than that--Happy New Year!
Reading your hub Tony...I realized I miss out a lot in 2009 but now I'm enlightened LOL

Just my 2 cents...
#1 ...I loved him as an entertainer! No talk of his children-they are beautiful! What has Michael Jackson taught me? Money does not make for happiness-We are all human and have 'conditions' regardless of who we are-and when the rain starts to pound down on you-always have God on your team! RIP MJ!
#2 Buyer's remorse? Great way to put it. All I can say...is I smell sulphur!
#3 Iranian protest! I despise war-killing-we are all God's people.
#4 I will repeat these great words again,
wake the fu@$^ up !!!
#5 The economy? We aint seen nothing yet!
#6 Sully Sullenberger? The awesome man who was carrying many CEO's of certain banks on board? The man who called out for God's help when he was bringing down the plane? tsk tsk tsk to others who never thought he could land that plane!
#7 Fort Hood- Lions-n-tigers-n-Muslims-n-Terrorists oh my! Can we say "MKULTRA" Dorthy? Just curious, was he implanted with a RFID chip?
#8 Afghanistan- Is Osama Bin Ladin still in a cave there? I bet Osama will be in many caves-in many places for the next few years-if certain people have it their way.
#9 Balloon Boy- Apparently they couldn't make it on "dancing with the stars." hehehe
#10 Swine flu-Porky's plague-H1N1-mercury-infested-quiet eugenics-not mandatory-you gotz ta get ya shot immediately or youz gonna die innoculation? "Give it to Mikey, he eats anything!"
The AMERICAN PEOPLE? We are the Mikeys of course!
God Bless America!
